128DJ's eXclusive Interviews:

Another eXclusive interview from 128! This time with DJ / Producer DREW SCOTT. The 128DJ's would like to say a HUGE thanks to Drew for his time and support! Any other information on Drew can be found from the links at the bottom of the post! Enjoy.

For those who don’t know you, can you give a little background information about yourself?

Drew Scott – House music DJ, Producer, Remixer and Kissdafunk resident DJ from Leeds with releases on Cr2, Suesse and Toolroom including a Co-production with Mark Knight called Headers & Volleys out on the new Toolroom Knights album.

How old were you when you got your first gig? And where was it?

I was 15, I think, at a local club in my hometown of Cockermouth (insert joke here) in the Lake District. A very small town that wasn’t really ready for my musical taste!

Which venues have you played at and which is your favourite?

I’ve been lucky enough to play for some of the biggest brands in house music including Cream, Gatecrasher and Filth to name a few. This has been alongside my residency for Kissdafunk, which has taken me all over the UK, Ibiza and as far a field as Dubai. I’d have to say closing the amnesia terrace is my favourite though, as it was pretty special at such an early stage of my career.

Plans for the future?

Im really enjoying production at the moment, especially after winning the massive Toolroom & Mark Knight Co-Production competition. We beat off 700 entrants in that worldwide comp and the release, Headers & Volleys, with my production partner Hollywood Hills is out now on Beatport. On the DJing front we’ve got John Dahlback at Kissdafunk in Leeds next weekend, which I’m really looking forward to!

Who are your main musical influences?

Mark Knight has always been a major influence, I was lucky enough to DJ with him early in my career and I learnt so much from watching him build an atmosphere on a dance floor. Other influences include Alex Kenji, Funkagenda and Stuart Price, the man with a million pseudonyms including Jacques Lu Cont, who is just a musical genius.

Top 5 tracks of the moment?

Mark Knight, Drew Scott & Hollywood Hills – Headers & Volleys

Jean Claude Ades - Vallee De Larmes (Pleasurekraft Sideshow Remix)

Mark Knight - Natural Instinct (Club Mix)

Olene Kadar - Baby Keep It Up

Florence & The Machine - Dog Days (Dirty Secretz remix)

Upto now, what is your greatest achievement DJ wise?

I guess my DJ career has been a tale of X-factor style DJ competitions. I won my 1st set of 1210’s in a massive DJ competition in Carlisle when I was 17 and then my Kissdafunk residency came from their national DJ competition 5 years ago! Other accolades include Galaxy 105’s Bar & Club DJ of the year but I’m still waiting for my OBE.

If you hosted a private party, which 3 DJ's would you have play?

Dennis Ferrer, Sebastien Leger & Jacques Lu Cont. It would be pretty special.

Any big productions to look out for?

We’ve got the follow up to Headers & Volleys called Tetra which will be coming out on wicked underground label Maquina Music and we’re back in the studio this week to finish off another project so watch this space!

What advice could you give to up and coming DJ's / producers wanting to get there name out there?

You’ve got to believe in what you’re doing and learn to stand-alone. Theres far too many sheep in this business clogging up the system, Baaaah!
